Matt: It’s not easy
making a website. Not easy at all. Since late November, I had
already contacted Edgar about the collaboration of an online
web-comic. He seemed rather interested but then came our
first stumbling block. His monitor is down and his
modem- dysfunctional. Albeit buying a new monitor and a new
modem, the internet connection still fail to work. And then
he did something to his whole computer, which delivered.
Then, there were my problems. I’ve long decided to draw a few characters,
namely those that you ought to see in the character page. I drew my
first strip, inked it and scanned it. Scanning, adjusting the colors
and cleaning spots is a nightmare! Then, I fill in the speech bubbles
with the most boring-looking font. And whilst admiring the final work,
it occurred to me… it looked like HELL. And so, it was discarded,
and I have to begin all over again on a new strip with a new story.
Also, there were the banner and the icon problems. The banner that
you no see on top of this rant has been finalised over 10 times. And
the icons? I did them a tad too big and hence, my second follow-up of
scraping something ensued.
Now the size that you see now is rather compromised, but hey, it’s
better than no icons at all.
Then came the challenge of drawing. Yea, if you are observant enough,
you might notice that the ‘Ed’ in the strip is rather different from
the ‘Ed’ in the logo. Well, let’s just say that Ed changed his specs and
went for some major facial re-construction to look so good in the
banner. Ok, ok, I know, it’s an excuse to hide the fact that my drawing
is lousy and they don’t look like the same person. Well… I am still
working on it. I believe there’s no such thing as ‘the more you work,
the worse it get’, right? ^^;
Sorry for sounding so grumpy, but that’s what’s a rant is all about…
voicing my disgruntled complains. Hope to see you again, when the next
strip is up…tentatively next Monday.
Ed: This is currently my most ambitious project yet. The problem I have with such projects is that somehow or rather i get distracted and
then the project collaspes. Now with Matt's constant pushing, I'm sure the website will be fine. The coding you see may be considered
amateurish cos I'm only done with working out the structure and mapping out the direction of the site and at the same time spending some time
searching for a part time job and enjoying some leisurely time out with friends. I hope you just read the comic and bear with the clumsy
interface till I've got time to include cooler navigation. I've always enjoyed watching people draw or admiring drawing but I really suck
at it and thus I took up Matt's offer of setting up this site as it gave me a chance to stick my finger and taste the comic pie. (And that
is figurative...) And by the way, if you are wondering if I really look like the guy in the comic, don't. Maybe sometime later I'll find a nice
photo and you can judge for yourself. If you are a comic fan yourself and have some drawings of your own, send them to us and maybe we
can have a corner for your contributions. Enough of my crap, view the rest of the site and tell me what you think my dropping by the forums
or sending me email. ByeZ!
